Trading in against a purchase does two things a private sale cannot: it takes the vehicle off your hands the same day, and it reduces the value on which your Georgia Title Ad Valorem Tax is calculated. On a $9,000 trade against a $24,000 purchase, TAVT is assessed on $15,000 instead of $24,000.
