Payment calculator
Most calculators quietly omit tax, which is why the real payment always comes in higher than the website said. This one includes Georgia Title Ad Valorem Tax and applies your trade-in against the taxable amount, the way the tag office actually does it.
The vehicle
Trade-in equity is deducted from the taxable value before TAVT is calculated. A private sale gets no such reduction — this is the strongest financial argument for trading in, and most people never account for it.

This calculator is an illustration, not an offer of credit. It assumes an illustrative 7% Georgia Title Ad Valorem Tax rate applied to the price less trade-in; the statutory rate is set by the Georgia General Assembly and changes periodically — confirm the current figure with the Georgia Department of Revenue. Tag, title and documentation fees are not included. Your actual rate and term depend on your credit profile and the lender.
Three numbers worth holding to
Total transport cost — payment, insurance, fuel and maintenance — should stay under about 15 percent of your take-home pay. Ten is more comfortable.
Keep the term at 60 months or less on a used car. Anything longer guarantees years of negative equity.
A fifth down protects you from being underwater the moment you drive off, and materially improves the rate you are offered.
Now put a real car against that number
