Renting to drive rideshare only works if you understand the weekly break-even before you sign. Drivers who do the math first tend to stay profitable; drivers who do not tend to quit inside two months and blame the platform.

Why mileage caps disqualify a rental instantly

A full-time rideshare driver in metro Atlanta covers 800 to 1,200 miles a week. On a standard rental with a 150-mile daily allowance, that is roughly 50 to 150 miles a day over the cap. At typical per-mile overage rates, the excess charge alone can exceed the base rental rate. Unlimited mileage is not a nice-to-have for this use case — it is the entire product.

The weekly break-even

Work in this order. Take the weekly rental rate, add fuel, add the platform commission, and you have the number you must clear before a single dollar is yours.

Line itemTypical weekNote
Rideshare rental, unlimited milesYour quoted weekly rateAsk for it in writing before you start
Fuel, ~1,000 miles at 32 MPG$105–$130Varies with pump price
Car washes and supplies$15–$25Water, chargers, cleaning
Weekly cost before earningsRate + roughly $130–$155This is your break-even

Work it out with the actual rate you are quoted, not an advertised one. Add the rental rate to roughly $130–$155 of running costs, and that total is what you must clear before a dollar is yours. At an average net of $22 to $28 per hour of engaged time in metro Atlanta, most drivers find break-even lands somewhere around 17 to 22 driving hours a week — and that below roughly 25 hours a week, a rental rarely makes sense.

Where the money actually is in Atlanta

  • Airport queue timing. ATL is the busiest airport in the world and the queue can be dead money — watch the queue length, not the surge colour.
  • Event nights. Mercedes-Benz Stadium, State Farm Arena and Gas South District all produce reliable post-event demand.
  • Morning commute into Midtown and Buckhead, roughly 06:30 to 09:00.
  • XL rides. Fewer drivers qualify, the rate is higher, and a seven-seat vehicle rents for about 45 percent more while XL fares run meaningfully above X.

Requirements before you rent

  • Twenty-five or older for the rideshare fleet.
  • Valid licence with a clean-enough record for rideshare insurance.
  • Active Uber or Lyft driver account already approved.
  • Rideshare-endorsed insurance, or a commercial policy added through us.
  • Security deposit, typically $300.
Only rent for rideshare on unlimited mileage, and only if you can consistently drive 25-plus hours a week. Anything less and ownership or a different plan is the better answer.
